What's New Today?

Thank God it's Friday (for officeworkers like me).

It's May 9, one day before Bert and family's departure for the US, and two days before Dra. Linda's Birthday and mother's day. I don't believe in the latter celebration. That's just another marketing strategy concocted by Westerners and exported to us. Dapat magbakal nin cards, chocolates, flowers, jewelries and treat the mothers to the restaurants, spas, and bonggang make-overs, para happy ang mga negosyante. E pano si mayong kwarta? You'll again increase the frustrations of many of the mothers. You can show your love for your mothers, everyday! You don't have to wait for May 11 to do this.

MAKURYENTE SANA! (It's up to you kun si-isay.)

Government is demanding transparency from MERALCO to be able to lower power rates at all cost. (Transparency? tatao man palan kayan an gobyerno!)

GSIS is planning to file fraud charges against Meralco over a P30-billion billing fiasco.

GSIS has no intention of taking control of Meralco from the Lopezes. We are only fighting for the pension fund's right to corporate information and to lower power rates.

GSIS Manager Winston Garcia, GMA Ally

Dapat sa Meralcong iyan ay pasabugin!

Lungga iyan ng mga sindikato. Mas masahol pa iyan sa Bureau of Customs! -

Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago, GMA Ally

We can file criminal charges against Meralco for large-scale estafa. - Sec. Raul Gonzales, another GMA Ally.

President Macapagal Arroyo has nothing to do with the GSIS moves. - Winston Garcia

I am fed up with all this. If they want, they can buy our shares. - Oscar Lopez, President of First Holdings, and patriarch of the Lopez family.

The President is not the type who would wage war on anybody. - Sec. Peter Favila

Hi Toti,

Ive been tied up sorry for late reply.

Just to come back to your question, flight is Sat pm..

Many thanks for your thoughts, but as Napoleon used to say, “it’s better to keep departures low-key,

and arrivals merry”. So no need to take coverage at the airport.

Besides we’ll just take some pics and email them to googlegroups.

bawi na lang tayo pag balik

I just found a perfect place for us 67’ers to hang around here in Makati

and I’ll bring you all there one weekend in Aug.

Totally agree to your views on Mothers’ day. It should be a day-to-day kind of loving and

caring to mothers, not annual nor material nor external.!

Same goes for Father’s day, dib a?

Take care, ‘lo (he..he.)

Cheers

Bert

Hi Bert and Marie,
Tama!…and no long goodbyes, either…he, he, he. Have a nice trip and a safe land… The US is not in a very good shape right now but it will be alright. I just lost lots of money betting on Yahoo yesterday. I am still merely able to eat…. In a way, all that’s needed is just to wait. I am sure that our classmates, Danny and Erlinda will be so happy to see you both in Orlando plus our other classmates in LA and SF. Have a nice stay and let us meet again when you come back. Once more…safe trip and ingat always. Lots of huggggssssss….

Founding of The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints (1830)

Shortly after Joseph Smith published the Book of Mormon in 1830, he officially founded The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints—also known as the Mormon Church—in Fayette, New York. The church flourished but was forced to relocate frequently. It was violently expelled from Missouri, and a mob killed Smith in Illinois in 1844. His successor, Brigham Young, led followers to Utah three years later. Tensions with the US government continued to escalate, culminating in what war? More... Discuss

Gerald Joseph "Gerry" Mulligan (1927)

Mulligan was an important baritone saxophonist and one of the best-known exponents of cool jazz, a delicate, understated offshoot of bebop. He began his career in the mid-1940s as an arranger for Gene Krupa and Claude Thornhill and played on the historic Miles Davis nonet recordings in 1949. He gained considerable success with the quartet he formed with Chet Baker in 1952, and he led ensembles of various sizes thereafter. Mulligan served jail time after he was arrested in 1953 for what?
