I've got all my life to live. I have survived!!

Rori,

I did not get to talk to you on the phone. At least with us, it's only been 10 years. Still.. I miss not seeing you again. Heard about your mild stroke, but from what I see in the pictures, you look great. You have a great looking family too. Stay healthy, we have more reunions to come.

God bless,

Marybeth

Dear Toti,

This picture was taken before the wedding of my eldest son (standing in the center) last December, 2006. You ask me to send you a picture showing the family. My contribution to mankind. . . There is a proverb that says" to preserve your name in posterity you either 1. Plant a Tree.. 2. Write a Book . 3. Or Bear a Son. I think the last option is still possible for you, unless I don't know something. he-he-he. Joke Only!

regards,

Rory

Just wanted to inform you that what made it possible to show the video on big screen was Rory Serra's effort to bring the LCD projector and DVD player, including the power cords, adopters,, and numerous CDs and DVDs of music circa 60s and 70s. And it was unfortunate that he was not able to hitch a ride with Tess, Bert or Rudy and the Philtranco bus he rode got busted even before reaching Calamba. It was already past 12 noon when their bus was able to leave Calamba. We were already in Atimonan, Quezon by that time (Alot, Lina and I rode with Tess, and with us on convoy was
Bert and his family. Rudy, Evelyn and son Ryan, travelled much earlier than us. ). Double whammy, Rory left his eyeglasses in Sariaya, Quezon. (Going back to Manila, he already rode with Rudy.)

Toti,

Thanks for those behind the scenes stories. Integrating the video (lcd & dvd), the computer, and the sound system at the place (which we did'nt know what to expect when we left Manila- that I had to bring all possible adapters/ connectors) contributed in making the affair a success. One failure was the plan to hook up the event to the internet(via skype or YM) which would have been nice for the US-Canada group to watch it 'live'. I could have debated with the technician in place or even quarreled with the 'just woken-up' guy but decided to be sober, kailangan natin si Boy Rios o si Boboy to do a 'Virginia Massacre', Joke lang. Anyway thanks guys for making me contribute something to making the affair a success, and to you partner Toti it was nice working with you. Cheers
GBU All.

Toti,

Another piece of trivia was that since I left my eyeglasses in Sariaya, Quezon, I had a blurred vision upon reaching Daet and in order not to ruin my enjoyment, of seeing my beautiful classmates again, I had one made within one hour in Daet in time for the motorcade with the help of Judge Winston Racoma, RTC Daet, my host. And alas!, I was able to retrieve it back on our way home to Manila last Sunday. So I have now two sets of glasses. Praise God!

Thanks

Yes, I remember now, Rory. On our trip back to Manila, Rudy called. He was trying to fool me that you changed your mind and decided not to hitch a ride with you. Instead, Rudy said you were going to ride with us! But we were already in Quezon at that time and you were not with us. So that got us worried thinking that you were again taking a bus ride alone back to Manila. Then I heard you laughing on the background. So I knew you were with them. Rudy did say that you'll check with the restaurant where you ate if they found and kept your eyeglasses. And so they did. Good thing!

Hello Guys, am back in circulation now after days of problem solving of some members of my family. First, my 4th child who does not want to study anymore. He was on his 3rd year-Computer Science at De La Salle U. so I accompanied him to different schools but he does like it either for various reasons. I suspect may nakagalit na prof sa La Salle.I told him that both me and his mom are already old and sickly so he must finish a course, nasa "predeparture area na kami" pagnamatay na kami he can't rely on his siblings to support him kasi hindi niya kasundo yong mga yon. "Pinapabayaan ko na lang" later he would come to terms with himself. I also accompanied and taught my youngest son who is a "mama's boy" how to commute to school kasi 1st year college na din sa DLSU-CSB. Finally, the car which is giving me problems for a long time but can't have to have it fixed as usual the 'family driver'. finally had it done. Enough of those family matters, anyway am back pero medyo lang kasi Mother- Father ako ngayon kasi nasa Taiwan si Lina, my wife for meetings with 3 banks. so she will be away
for 2 weeks.

Hello, Rori

Really nice to hear from you again after a long while. I do sympathize with what you have to go through with your kid. that somewhat striked me because I go through that kind of situation myself at one time or another. i'm sure most parents do. Most kids in this generation are pampered and over-loved (ironically, can be blamed partly to us parents.) We try to give them everything we could. We always love to say, "hindi nila mararanasan ang dinanas natin". But we see now this has some negative effects at times. Eventually they become over –dependent and easy-going, and have a mind-set that things will remain easy forever. Thus there's lack of motivation to study and strive harder for the future. Maybe it is better if they actually suffered somehow, so that they'll have some fear or concern and feel more responsible. I do a lot of pushing with my boys as well and it's not easy. In the end we just console ourselves that we did and gave our best, and hope one day they'll be enlightened before it's too late.

Anyway, my hats off to you, Rori. your kids are a lucky bunch. especially, that you can be "mom" and "pop" at the same time !

Rory,

It was nice to hear from you again. Rory, problems come and go. Take it easy. Talagang ganyan ang buhay. Like you said nasa predeparture area na, kaya take care of yourself. I'll pray for you. Ingat.

Rori,

Good to hear from you again.I thought you got sick kaya wala kaming balita. I can only read and listen to your problem with the kid but no best practices or learnings to draw from. Wala kasing anak! Although I'm the guardian of a nephew and a niece from my brother who's an OFW. What I have experienced is consulting the high school teachers of my nephew every grading period. Sa Letran-Calamba kasi, if the grade of a student in science and math subjects is below 82, the parent/guardian has to discuss with the teacher, observed problems of the child and remedial actions. Madalas noon, may mga below 82 iyong “magaling” kong pamangkin. Anyway, having five kids, I'm sure you'll get through this.

Gud luck sa pagiging na-tay!
