August 25 Mass for Rene

Last Monday, the Manila group offered mass for the eternal rest of Rene, Men's husband. This was at the Chapel in SM Mega Mall. Only three of us were able to make it though due to work and other commitments of the rest (Ed was in Bangkok, Bert in Davao, Tess in Bicol, etc.).

After the mass, we had our lunch in the same restaurant where we celebrated Maning's birthday. Here are the pictures.

Hi Guys,
You are so admirable! Despite distance, you really show your sympathy, support and solidarity to our grieving classmate. I feel bad that I could not even attend the memorial service due to work schedule. I hope Men understand. Anyway, I will have a mass in his honor.

Your pics look great by the way. Kahit tatlo lang, pero parang marami (i.e. in spirit!)

I have received a vm from Marybeth about Susan being in the Bay Area. Hopefully, we can round up the group this Saturday to meet with her. Joe Sales had already called me and he will be available.

Men-I know it is too soon to think of fun but if you feel that joining us will somehow relieve the pain of your loss, we will be delighted to have you. Just let us know.

Marybeth-tried to return your vm but unable to connect. I'll try to call later today but in case you don't hear from me-I'll make myself available this Sat. for Susan's get together. Where's the venue? Or shall we pay Men a visit if she is up to it already? Let me know.

Hi Guys,

Thank you for your August 25 mass fo Rene. You are all admirable for your support, sympathy and understanding. Somehow it lifted my spirit. Salamat for all the prayers, too. After I tend to legal matters, my kids want me to travel, will try to include Philippines. Once again, thanks for everything.

Ingat all,

The first African American to achieve leading man status in Hollywood, Poitier began acting with the American Negro Theatre in New York City and made his film debut soon after. He won acclaim on Broadway for his role in 1959's A Raisin in the Sun and, in 1964, became the first African American to win the Academy Award for Best Actor, for his role in Lilies of the Field. Many of his films address issues of race, yet some have criticized his choice of film roles for what reason? More... Discuss

Lanford Wilson (1937)

One of the founders of the "off-off-Broadway" theater movement, Wilson began writing plays in 1962 and helped found the Circle Repertory Company in 1969. His plays frequently address themes of decay, solitude, and loss, and are known for their realistic dialogue in which monologue, conversation, and direct audience address overlap. His Pulitzer Prize-winning Talley's Folly depicts the post-Vietnam War world of a Southern family. What Russian work did he translate for the stage? More... Discuss
