40th Year Class Reunion - Planning and Preparations

February 7, 2007

Dear Classmates,

Remember the year 1967? Surely, that year brings back a lot of happy memories. Foremost, of course, is our high school graduation--a milestone in our life we always want to look back to, with so much fondness and nostalgia in our hearts. We were young then, full of hopes and dreams... never knowing what the future was in store for each of us. Well, that's been 40 years ago and many of us would agree that life has become a continuous journey with constant challenge of choices and expectations. We had our own share of triumphs and failures, but good times or bad, we survived.

So, whatever our lives may have been, let's all pause for a moment and come together to celebrate our 40th or Ruby Grand Reunion named: "SA MULI NATING PAGKIKITA 2007" on April 14 and 15, 2007, in Daet, Camarines Norte. This is a rare occasion we all have been craving for and we sincerely like to have the pleasure of your company. We have planned numerous activities which will allow us to reminisce, recollect and relive the past.

You have so much power to help us make this event truly auspicious and memorable. Take note, it's been 40 years! We probably need another lifetime to come up with a grand reunion like this, so please COME and JOIN us.

Attached herewith is the schedule of activities and list of our classmates, whom you could contact and coordinate with. Monetary contributions will be voluntary, although we wish to appeal to our more fortunate and prosperous classmates. Your generosity in sharing your blessings will be highly appreciated.

Thank you very much and we'll be looking forward to having you with us on this joyous occasion.

Dear Fechie,

By the way, when are you leaving for the Philippines? I will try to kulit my boss tomorrow for an answer so I can make plans. My scheduled flight is on the 9th to the 20th. If I can make it, perhaps I can go with Tess, too. Sigurado masaya ang trip pag together tayo nila Toti. Sana, pagdating natin may mga yellow ribbons sa DPS/LCCI - para welcome talaga tayo, after 40 years! Wow! excited talaga ako.

Wish me good luck for tomorrow. Thank you.

Hugs,

just a few questions or items :

--headcount--
have we any update on how many are confirmed attending, as of now?

--budget--
obviously someone has to do some sort of a budget for the gathering.. which would be the basis for the indivudal contribution. we all agree of course that attendance must be encouraged, contribution is secondary, ( but ..as in any other gathering also necessary for it to run smoothly. .)

our dear generous classmates from abroad, i understand, have, or will donate unspecified amounts, so this will probably subsidize whoever may be a bit hard-up and unable to contribute but have the willingness, time and concern to attend. for the rest, i mean for us, the "locals' - let's set a minimum contribution.

will payment be done only on registration day, or would you rather have the contributions sent ahead..? we noted mendy's account no. we're waiting for the damage amount..

--programme--
this is 40-yr homecoming, it might as well be special.
how can we make the activities and programme extra memorable?
ideas/ suggestions are encouraged. it's just 3.5 weeks away.

best regards,
Bert

Guys,

Bert is in search of suggestions to make this reunion a very special event. Is it too late to think of a Souvenir Program/Yearbook Then and Now? Isn't Toti coming up with a Video presentation/photo compilation? Are you, Toti? Are there any special talents from the group? How about sharing them during the evening affair? Unfortunately, I don't have any.

Any update on Roberto Manly? Is he attending the reunion? He was my "crush" in high school ( revelation time, huh?) I definitely will be there if he is.( joke, joke only!)

This is all for now. Best regards to all.

dear all,

great suggestion from bert and fechie! yes, let's come up with a souvenir program. huwag lang kagaya ng "annual", which is released a year after graduation. bert and mendy are very good writers, I'm sure they can come up with brilliant ideas.

yes, i'll do the vcd of the antique and the recent pictures. Thanks bert for sending your photos, mukhang galing talaga sa baul, nangangamoy pa.

fechie, I'll do the correction in the profile of e-group members. actually, di naman malayo iyong burlington and burlingame. kasi iyong burlington, medyas ng mga athletes, iyong mga athletes siyempre gamit nila iyon sa games. okey, okey, kurni pa rin.

k guys, limang bagsak para kay men! if you've been away too long, that's not negative. that means cheers for men for the terrific job!

dear all,

o.k. yung suggestion ni fechie to come out with a souvenir something.. but i dont think we have time for anything printed. so what i suggest is - subject to toti's okay (he's our in-house computer technician he..he.)..- we put it on CD instead. the vdeo presentation will be of two parts:

1) the THEN : meaning old photos of each and the whole class which i guess mostly now avaIlable;
and 2) the NOW, meaning your latest pic, your family and snapshots of your current activities, or career. like, if you're a teacher, then photo of you in the school with your class, in the case of fechie, a few photos of you and your hospital staff maybe.. if you're an engineer, then maybe your latest project
or if in the case of capt. rudy, maybe the latest plane your flying..etc.. etc..shots which sort of highlight your current career (or a major achievement!).. each one will have to submit to toti the NOW pictures in the next few days..asap. then enough copies can be made for everyone to take home as a souvenir
after the gathering. blank vcd's are cheap, and shud be no problem to make copies, di ba toti?
we can put all the expenses in the budget - which shouldn't be much.

talents- yes, fechie also mentioned - maybe we can have some kids showcase their talent, singing, dancing, comedy..during the evening program.. and of course give them some token gifts for the efforts. if parents still have some talents left, then they can present too..he..he.

one thing lang- baka masyadong mahaba program, mayo nang turugan ini.. but we only get puyat once in 40 years, so why not maximize that sat. evening..?.

appreciate your comments.

Hello Bert,

This is Danny. How are you? That's a great idea you suggested. If I may add, since we are in the high tech era and we have a Toti, perhaps those who can't attend the reunion may send a video e-mail to greet our beloved classmates on the night of the gathering. Toti will play it in a big screen. I'm sure that DPS has WI-FI capability. I really hope that I will be able to attend the reunion there in Daet. If not, can I just do my suggestion? Regards to you and your family. Sayang, hindi tayo nagkita sa Makati.

Dear Toti,

Thought of something to help out for the search and locate committee. Perhaps we can ask some classmates to assist:

To Locate - Contact

Eva Balce, Miguel Balce, Joe Zano - Remo

Vangie Fonacier - Bing Abano

Lourdes Serra, Marvin Serra - Rory

Jose Mari Chavez - Diano Chavez
Alito Yadao - (Does anybody want to go to Tagas?)

What do you think?

Men

Daet Parochial School Class 67 said...

Men,

Okay we'll ask them.

Tagas? Ed would have been willing to, pero matagal ng wala iyon. Nasa centro na yata ang mga ganun sa Daet. Anyway, I think contacting Alito won't be a problem. Nanduon lang sya.

The elusive one is our class valedictorian, marynat.

Tagas, where's that? Our specialist there is Alito. In Daet, I heard that there is a very strong Vinzons Group. With Mendy, I am sure that they will be located or news about them will be given to everyone. They will surely be our stars for the occasion. Hugsssss

dear all,

it was a riot reading the exchange of emails. I was laughing out loud, alone in the sala. Hope it was not too loud, my neighbors might be wondering.... nahihibang na yata yong matanda dyan sa kabila!

Yesterday, Alot gave me two CDs of 60s hit songs from Susan, from which I can choose the background music for our CD. As a reward for picking up the CDs, she treated me to gulp, two bottles of my favorite San Mig light.

I have started working on the CD. So, I'd like to reiterate Bert's reminder to send your photos. I especially need the solo graduation pics - Miniang/Minnie, Violy, Joe Sales please send your photos. MagHo-Holy Week na pati, baka dai kamo makabali sa estampita! If you have copies of our classmates' graduation photos, please scan and send them to me.

Tess Cereno-Solis has confirmed attendance to the reunion. In fact she's bringing her revo and she can accommodate six classmates. Alot and I are already included in the passengers' manifest. We will be leaving for Daet, on Friday, April 13 at 7 am SHARP!

Mendy gave me the updates of their meeting (with Susan, Remo, etc) regarding the preparations for the Reunion.

Friday

There will already be a welcome dinner in Bagasbas.

Saturday

9 AM - Motorcade (dapat mukha tayong artista o pulitiko para maghiriling ang mga tao)

visit to La Co/DPS, audience with the sisters/mothers/school officials

Lunch at Louie's (alalay ang beer, 'coz we still have a mass at 3 pm celebrated by Fr. Efren, baka ma-amoy niya beer, although Rory might try replacing water with gin, para puro ang chaser ni Father sa Mompo!)

3 PM mass

Socials

Sunday - the Calaguas' picnic has been cancelled. Instead, there'll be lunch at Dorset's place in Bagasbas.

Mendy or Susan will send the revised schedule of activities, but it will be something like that.

see you soon!

Hi Toti,

Here's some more pics for your video presentation where you can choose from. I haven't learned how to label them as I send them, so bear with my way of identifying. The 2 ladies in the pic is me and Sylvia Villafuerte (DPS '66); the solo is me of course; the informal group is me (in the pink) with the Phil Team who climb the summit of Mt. Everest. This mountaineers were invited to our hospital for their fund raising. The other group picture is me at the farthest right with Filipino Artists (Kuh Ledesma, Isabella(her daughter), Christian Bautista(I think) and I forgot the others. This was taken here in US during their concert visit.

I'm sorry that you got stuck with this assignment. I wish I can help but I am not techno savvy. It looks like your Holy Week break is working more than your actual job. Just consider that your act of penitence for the season. Afterall, this might be lighter and bearable than walking on your knees or carrying the cross around town.

Glad that the venue for the Sunday event was changed. I was quite concerned about going to Calaguas altho I have not been there. You see, after all these years I have not learned how to swim and I’m not really confident about taking boat rides. Plus it will give us more opportunity to chitchats rather than commuting.

So, what's the attire for the Saturday affair? School uniform or dress comfortably? Are you sure the cops will not chase us during the motorcade? Baka akala nila itong mga damatan na ito ay nagwawala!

I am feeling so guilty about my planned escapade at work and with my previous commitment in order to attend this reunion but I just couldn't miss it. We are so short-handed aat work and our new hired manager just quit! And I am supposed to be one of the ninangs in a wedding of my friend's daughter in Atlanta, GA. Well, bahala na.

Our email exchanges are getting to be really entertaining. Just like you, I find myself laughing alone as I read them. In fact lately at work, it has become my priority. I would read our egroup mails first before business. Uplifting eh!

Well, so much for now. Bye and best regards to all.

Toti,

I have a collection of '60s music in DVD format (Ventures, Shadows, Beatles, Dave Clark 5,etc just
tell me what the group wants to hear/see so everybody can be in the right '60's mood. You might want it for the video you are doing. Is Ed going to bring his LCD projector? If he can't, I'll try to borrow one.
Although no promises, I'll let you know by next week.

ED-how much lumen power does your LCD have? 1800 up?,because if it's lighted specially during daytime it needs at least that much power. Maybe we might also need to ask permision from Mendy and Daet Group so they can include it in the saturday program.

Thanks,

Hi...yes I can bring my projector pero not as big 1800 Lumens per watt...I use this in rural areas in many countries pero sa gabi, he, he, he. Hi Fetchie….Doin my best Fetchie…doin my best. Me serious…nope. Kalog din! Since we were together back then. Check with Rudy and Toti…Guess it is hard to get serious when you are not kalog at the same time…he, he, he. One reason why a person (or any character, that is) becomes boring is consistency…consistently serious…consistently funny…boring, he, he, he…Or worst, predictable! It is the subtlety of being once in a while funny…And once in a while serious that makes one interesting…he, he, he.
Seriously…wala pa yong hinihintay (hopefully, tonight but am getting restless) kong sagot sa proposal ko not to depart for Palestine next week. I waited yesterday evening, pero wala pa rin…many things are currently unfolding in Palestine. And it looks like your Dr Condi Rice will succeed in initiating another round of peace talks…This is definitely a window of opportunity for those trying to bring-in some development ideas into Palestine…But whatever happens, I need to prepare for the trip…have to finish some current backlogs too…Mahirap ang self-employed Fetchie… even if you are “retired but not tired”….

Problem lang, walang internet access si Allan and it may take sometime if he wants to be connected. He might check Daet sometimes this year and decide what to do. I advised him to just establish a trust account in the US, earn some interest and spend all his retirement money plus the interest of his trust account here in Manila or in daet. His money (limited as it may) will buy double the value as they would in the US…and with lots of services. Gee, Daet is a fine place to retire…near Bagasbas and lots of sunshine and coconut trees…what else would anyone like Allan looked for…Oooppsss I forgot to mention…lots of wonderful ladies looking for you know…

Now, for other matters, following instructions from Susan, who until now still has to learn how to use the internet even if she has her own computer in her room (busy raw kasi sya, sabi ko tinatamad lang):

1. Fechie, if you'll take a connecting flight to Naga, you can contact Susan so she can pick you up at the airport, have breakfast in their home, and leave together for Daet. Susan's CP is (63)
917-580-0256.

2. Irma, sayang daw, you learned about the reunion only last month. You'll be missed. Still, you may want to contribute something because the group may decide to implement some projects. Your contribution would be very much welcomed!!!

It must be so frustrating to cancel a ticket for a trip that you are so sure you’ll enjoy…Not too late for all the others who can come…arranging for tickets via the internet takes seconds only…so please change your minds and come to the Reunion!

Hello all,

Three more photos of the meeting we had in Robinsons Galleria just today…Ok, additional thoughts…the idea proposed by Danny to arrange a Skype session on Saturday of the Reunion would be a nice event to remember…I guess Rudy would be in a really better position to make the arrangements for these to happen. Rudy is an outstanding Skype Moderator and I am sure that he can orchestrate this among so many people in many different time zones…Manila, Canada, LA, Florida, Japan (if we succeed in contacting Vivian), etc…Likewise, Toti, please re-chack the whereabouts of the others who are mere blanks in our Roster. In my experience with other Reunions, we tend to collect all the known information during the gathering…Rori Serra, please make some arrangements for the back-up LCD Beamer. We have a very good CD and we need to show to our fellow Reunionistas…Please find some interesting Projects for our small fund (if we can raise it). Please shy away from scholarships (which we cannot sustain) and concentrate on simple one-shot projects (tourism materials for Daet, website, donation to LCCI, contest for Daet essays, etc.) activities and then we will later on organize a much better fund raising as soon as the demands for our projects increases. Just sharing with you my thoughts. Lots of hugsssss.
